This blog post has been written by our most recent work experience student, Abby, and outlines her week spent at Select Lifestyles.

‘Hi, my name is Abby Lees, I’m 17 years old and currently studying an extended diploma at Health Futures UTC. In the future I want to be a Care Quality Manager or inspector.

This is my third office-based work experience but the first based in a head office. My time spent at Select house has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience so far. I’m halfway through my week and so far, I have worked on reception and in the finance and training departments. Everyone has been very approachable and friendly. Still yet to come is work in the operations department, estates and maintenance, administration and human resources.

Already I feel I can have more confidence in saying a managerial role Is for me in the future. Alongside this I have seen first-hand the number of roles that are available in the care sector and how vast the opportunities are within this.

Everyone I have spoken to has been willing to help me and have gone the extra mile to make sure I was comfortable and enjoying my time. Some of the tasks I have been set are to: sign in visitors and direct them to the correct place, organise a suppliers list and to assist and take part in training for supporting staff. Some of the skills I have gained are confidence when talking to new people, communication skills and professionalism.

All in all, my week so far at Select Lifestyles has been enjoyable and informative. I have absorbed a lot of new information in such a short amount of time. I would definitely recommend work experience with Select Lifestyles and I’m looking forward to taking this experience forward in to my future endeavours.

I would like to say a huge thank you to the Select Lifestyles team for the time and effort put in to my visit and it is greatly appreciated.
